Things To Do Before Selling Your Home

If you sell your home through an experienced agent, he or she will direct you to places in your home where you should do repairs and provide you key insights on how to spruce up your home so that your home has a better perceived value. However, either you want to sell your home through an agent or by yourself, it’s always a good idea to spruce up the exterior and interior of your home before listing it for sale. That doesn’t mean you have to undertake major or expensive repairs or renovations. Just a little effort will greatly increase the perceived value of your home. Below are some simple things you can do to increase the perceived value of your home and to easily sell your home in a least amount of time.

  • Clean out garage, keep lawns cut, rim hedges and shrubs, weed and edge gardens.
  • Clean and repair cracked plaster, stairs, and hallways.
  • Repair cracked floors, ceilings and inside walls.
  • Examine and repair kitchen cabinets, water taps, doors, and windows.
  • Clean furnace, appliances like fridge, stove, washer and dryer, etc.
  • Clean windows, porch, front doors, as well as the mailbox.
  • Arrange and clear closets of unnecessary clothing.
  • Arrange kitchenware and stuff in the kitchen cabinets.
  • Rearrange furniture to make the house look spacious and organized.
  • If necessary, repaint the whole house with neutral colors.
  • Move unnecessary furniture to the garage; “garage sale” is a great way to get rid of unused things that affect the house’s looks.
  • Finally, always make your home smell fresh and clean; eliminate pet odors and food odors after cooking.
